Brisbane Lions defender Ryan Lester has been rewarded with a new one-year contract to remain at Brighton Homes Arena until at least the end of 2025.

The 32-year-old has produced the best season of his 14-year career, playing every game as one of the Lions best and most consistent players.

Lester was a shining light down back during the Lions’ tough start to the 2024 season and continued to perform as the team secured their sixth consecutive finals berth.

The experienced defender, selected with Pick 28 in the 2010 national draft from the Oakleigh Chargers, celebrated his 200th game milestone in the Round 21 win.

Now with a new contract for next year, the veteran more commonly known as ‘Frog’ is looking forward to extending his career as a Lion.

“I am really excited to be at the Brisbane Lions for another year,” Lester said.

“There’s a great environment and culture at the club which I love being around and it makes turning up each day more enjoyable.

“I am also grateful for the role the club and football in general play in my life and my family’s life.

“I look forward to seeing what the rest of the 2024 season can bring for us as a club.”

Lester, who played in last year’s Grand Final, offers plenty on-field for the Lions and will again be a key to their finals campaign this season.

Brisbane Lions General Manager Football, Danny Daly said Lester is just as valuable off field which is why the club is thrilled to have him re-commit.

“When people always talk about Ryan, they regard him as such a selfless, team-first player and leader who everyone loves to be around,” Daly said.

“But over the last two seasons particularly he has reminded many that he is a talented player who plays such an important role for us down back.

“He is playing some really good footy and deserves this new contract because he has worked incredibly hard for it.

“The culture at the football club is largely due to having people like Ryan here, as well as his wife Emi and their kids, so we look forward to having them stay with us.”
