Brisbane Lions duo Jarryd Lyons and Deven Robertson have capped off outstanding years in the VFL side with selection in the VFL Team of the Year.
Lyons, the reigning J.J Liston trophy winner, demonstrated why in 2024, averaging 29.6 disposals across the season, only finishing with one game under 20 touches, highlighting his supreme consistency.
This season, it wasn’t only his ability to win the ball at the source but hit scoreboard, booting 20 majors as he continued to add strings to his bow in his last season at the elite level.
Not too be outdone was his partner in crime, Deven Robertson, with the duo creating a dynamic one-two punch which took the Lions all the way to their third successive Preliminary Final.
In his 16 matches at VFL level, Robertson was dominant averaging 25.9 possessions including seven games over 30 touches.
Similarly to Lyons, Robertson’s ability to amass possessions was not his only weapon with his tackling pressure a highlighting including 16 tackles in the Lions Preliminary Final on Saturday.
It is the first time since 2022 that the Lions have had two players selected in the VFL Team of the Year, when Ryan Lester and Rhys Mathieson were both picked.
