Rookie of the Year

To be eligible for the award, a player may not have played more than ten senior AFL games before the start of the season and must be in their first or second year.

In 2024, after making his debut in unusual circumstances, Logan Morris has been awarded the Rookie of the Year award.

Playing 19 games in his first season, Morris booted 24 goals and found a home in the Lions forward line.

Kicking multiple goals in nine occasions including in both the Preliminary and Grand Final.

Marcus Ashcroft Most Professional Player Award

Awarded to the player who upholds the highest professional standards, the Marcus Ashcroft Most Professional Player Award has been awarded to Lions vice-captain Hugh McCluggage in 2024.

The midfielder played a key role on field through the Lions premiership winning season but his diligent and dedicated approach to recovery and all aspects off-field has been commended this year.

A leader of the Club, McCluggage has led by example throughout 2024 and has been reflected with his performance on-field thanks to all the hard work he puts in during the week between games.

Shaun Hart Trademark Player Award

The Shaun Hart Trademark Player of the Year recognises the Lions player who best exuded competitiveness this season both on the footy field and in his week-to-week preparation.

Lions ruck Oscar McInerney was awarded the Shaun Hart Trademark player of the year award following a brilliant 2024 campaign.

Despite missing the Lions grand final win, the Big O is well known amongst teammates and opponents as a competitive beast when he crosses that white line on game day.

Providing silver service to the Lions midfield, McInerney plays in integral role in the Lions machine both in air and in the ruck.

Players’ Player of the Year

Josh Dunkley has won this year’s Player’s Player Award.

Each week, players were asked to vote on who they felt best reflected the values they strive for as a group, with great emphasis placed on acts that benefitted the team as a whole and not necessarily the individual.

‘Dunks’ was deemed such, with the popular midfielder and vice-captain now a two-time winner of the award in succession.

Often applauded for his selflessness and team-first approach, Dunkley embodies the values within the four walls of the Club and is a deserving recipient.

Best Finals Player

the 2024 Finals Player Award has ended in a four-way tie between Brandon Starcevich, Will Ashcroft, Lachie Neale, Callum Ah Chee.

The award recognises the Lions player or players who have polled the most votes across the three finals with the same criteria as the Merrett-Murray medal voting system.

Norm Smith Medal winner Ashcroft had a superb finals series headlined by 30 disposals and a goal on Grand Final Day.

Neale averaged 33 disposals across the Preliminary and Grand Final highlighting his importance to the Lions midfield with 35 touches against the Swans in the Grand Final.

Starcevich played a key role throughout the Finals series blanketing dangerous opposition small forwards including Toby Greene and Tom Papley.

Finally, Ah Chee was Mr September this season, booting 10 goals while also playing shut down roles on Lachie Whitfield, Tom Stewart and Nick Blakey to great effect.

2024 Reserves Best & Fairest: Jarryd Lyons

Jarryd Lyons has capped off a brilliant 2024 taking home the Neville Fallon Brisbane Lions Reserves Best & Fairest Award for the second season in a row.

In his last season on an AFL list, following Lyons retirement announcement, the 2023 J.J Liston Trophy winner continued his stellar form at VFL level this season.

Lyons dominated in a stacked Lions midfield during the 2024 VFL Season averaging 29.6 disposals in 18 appearances.

He continued to rack up impressive stats including collecting 30 or more possessions on eight occasions but it was ability to hit the scoreboard which made him just as damaging forward of the ball.

Lyons booted 20 goals from his 18 games including six matches where he kicked multiple majors.
