The Brisbane Lions confirm duo Kalin Lane and Carter Michael will not be offered contracts for 2025, while James Madden has informed the Club he will return home to Ireland.
Michael, drafted to the Lions from Maroochydore as an Academy pre-selection in the 2020 NAB AFL Rookie Draft, departs the Club after one senior game across four seasons.
Struggling with injury for much of the last two season, Michael’s debut game for the Lions came against Essendon in Round 17, 2022.
Lane arrived at the Lions with the Club drafting the West Australian from the WAFL, where he player with Claremont, with its mid-season selection in 2021.
The 22-year-old ruck showed promise at VFL level but was unable to make his AFL debut in his four seasons.
Madden has made the tough decision to return home to Ireland to pursue a career in Gaelic Football, informing the Club of his decision this week.
The Irishman played 13 games in his six seasons at the Lions as a dashing defender.
Brisbane Lions General Manager Football, Danny Daly said the Club appreciated the service all three players have given the Lions.
“Jimmy has played a really key role for us for a number of years coming in and out of the senior side but we respect his decision to return to Ireland and wish him all the best with his pursuits in Gaelic footy,” Daly said.
“Kalin and Carter have both struggled with injury during their time at the Club. I thank all three players for their contribution to the Brisbane Lions and we wish them and their families all the best for the future.”
Other changes to the Lions list include the retirement of Joe Daniher and Jarryd Lyons.
