Brisbane Lions AFLW defender Poppy Boltz is set to play her 25th game against North Melbourne in Saturday night’s 2024 NAB AFLW Grand Final.
It will be a second successive grand final for the 24-year-old, who was selected by the Lions with pick 16 in the 2023 AFLW Supplementary Draft from Southport.
Hailing from Cairns, Boltz made the move to the Gold Coast in 2022 to pursue her AFLW dream, before making her debut in Round 2, 2023 against Port Adelaide.
“It is an honour to play 25 games this weekend for this incredible club,” Boltz said.
“Since I came into the group last year it’s been an amazing journey and I love running out with these girls week in and week out.
“This weekend we get the opportunity to do something pretty special and I know everyone is really excited.”
Boltz has made a name for herself playing in a stingy Lions defence, using her aerial presence and athleticism to turn the ball over and bounce out of half back.
Playing arguably her best game for the year against Adelaide in the Preliminary Final, Boltz took four marks and made six tackles helping keep the Crows to one major in the second half.
