With the 2025 season fast approaching, our Lions are gearing up for what promises to be another electrifying season, and Lions fans have every reason to be excited.
With a bingo card stacked with a fixture packed with blockbuster games, milestone moments, new recruits ready to don the maroon, blue, and gold and who could forget our highly anticipated premiership flag unfurling, this season is shaping up to be an unforgettable one.
So, with only 45 DAYS until the first bounce of 2025, here are our top five moments we are looking forward to this year.
1) Opening Round and Flag Unfurling
What better way to kick the year off then with an Opening Round blockbuster against an old foe in Geelong at the Gabba. What is set to be one of our biggest games of the year following a hotly contested preliminary final, both sides will be eager to start 2025 on the right foot.
Adding to the occasion, the club will proudly unfurl the 2024 premiership flag in front of a packed Gabba crowd, sharing the triumph with our loyal members and fans. This showdown promises to be another thrilling spectacle between the two sides and mark the start of our boy’s title defence.

2) Grand Final Rematch
After last year’s epic decider our Lions will head into enemy territory in Round 1 to face a hungry Swans outfit. Our first trip to the SCG since 2022 will be a highly anticipated matchup sure to draw the eyes of the footy world.
Footy fans will once again be treated to last year’s grand final matchups as they go head-to-head once more - Ah Chee v Blakey, Starcevich v Papley, Dunkley v Heeney and many more. This clash will be sure to have all the intensity and drama of last year’s decider.
3) Cubs ready to Roar (Debuts)
After another big trade period and draft our list has seen some exciting acquisitions join the den.
The plethora of new faces including Levi Ashcroft, Sam Marshall, Ty Gallop and Sam Day have given teammates and fans plenty to be enthusiastic about. Adding to the intrigue are players like 2024 mid-season draft utility Will McLachlan and national draft pick Luke Lloyd who are pushing for a senior call up in 2025 amongst others.
This new wave of Lions talent joins an already roaring core of players, as they strive to make their Lions debut in 2025.
4) Key Returns
Lions fans have plenty to smile about with the highly anticipated return of key players Lincoln McCarthy, Keidean Coleman, Darcy Gardiner, and Tom Doedee after their 2024 seasons were cut short by injury.
All four have been tracking strongly during the preseason, setting themselves up for impactful comebacks in 2025.
5) Milestone Moments
The 2025 season promises to be a year of incredible milestones for the Brisbane Lions.
AFLW stars Ally Anderson and Bre Koenen are set to play their 100th AFLW game. Anderson will be the first player alongside Adelaide’s Ebony Marinoff in AFLW history to reach the milestone, needing only 7 more appearances. Lions’s skipper Konen will not long after join the exclusive 100-game club, needing only 9 more appearances to reach the milestone.
Callum Ah Chee, Zac Bailey, Cam Rayner, and Conor McKenna are all set to celebrate their 150th games, while Hugh McCluggage and Eric Hipwood edge closer to 200 AFL games.
Fan favourite Charlie Cameron is within striking distance of his 250th game, needing just 21 more appearances to hit the mark.
However, the biggest milestone of all belongs to Dayne Zorko, who is only 23 games away from joining the exclusive 300-game club. If Zorko is to reach the milestone in his 14th season, he will become the 110th player in history to play 300 V/AFL games.
