The Brisbane Lions confirm forward Lincoln McCarthy has ruptured his ACL in his right knee and will be sidelined for an indefinite period.
McCarthy, who missed most of 2024 after injuring the same ACL in Round 8, had successfully returned to playing during the preseason and was pushing for an AFL return this weekend.
The 31-year-old was sent for scans, after advising the Lions medical staff of swelling and soreness after training last week, which confirmed the ACL rupture.
McCarthy will continue to work through the best course of action with the club.
βItβs incredibly disappointing and heartbreaking for Linc, his family and everyone at the Brisbane Lions to see him injure his ACL again,β Lions general manager of football, Danny Daly said.
βBut we have all been so impressed with the way Linc dealt with his last ACL injury and how committed he was to return, so we have no doubt he will tackle this injury with the same attitude.
βIn the meantime, everyone at the club will rally around Linc and support him through this process and he is a fan favourite as well so no doubt they will be sending their support for Linc.β
The Brisbane Lions will provide a further update on McCarthy once available in the coming weeks.
The Clubβs weekly injury update will be published on its website later today.
