The Brisbane Lions have named its team for Saturday’s Grand Final re-match with the Sydney Swans at the SCG.
Although almost the Lions exact 2024 premiership-winning outfit, there are two big inclusions this weekend – Oscar McInerney and Levi Ashcroft.
McInerney, who missed last year’s Grand Final with a heartbreaking shoulder injury in the Preliminary Final, has been selected and will take his place in the ruck.
The Lions big man has proven his fitness over the pre-season and impressed during the club’s practice matches.
As confirmed earlier today, Ashcroft will become the third member of his family to officially pull on the Brisbane Lions jumper when he makes his debut against Sydney.
The 18-year-old midfielder, drafted as a father-son selection with Pick 5 at last year’s draft, has been named as the substitute.
Ashcroft follows in the footsteps of his father and Lions triple premiership legend Marcus, and older brother Will who won the Norm Smith in the club’s 2024 premiership.
The young Lions will take his place alongside his brother Will on the interchange and is joined by teammates Callum Ah Chee, Darcy Fort and Brandon Starcevich.
The Lions have listed trio Conor McKenna, Will McLachlan and Darragh Joyce as its emergencies.
Saturday’s season-opener is scheduled for 3:15pm local time and will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo.
For those who can’t get to the game or watch on tv, be following the Lions social media pages for all the behind-the-scenes access.
