Brisbane’s two favourite sporting teams are joining forces in 2025, in a powerful new ‘Brisbane’ Partnership, which will culminate in the inaugural Brisbane Lunch on 16 May, starring the sides’ head coaches and biggest names.
The Broncos and Lions’ cross-code marriage comes as the two Clubs’ men’s sides prepare for their first home matches of season 2025 this weekend.
The Broncos take on the Cowboys at Suncorp, while the Lions will unfurl their Premiership flag before taking on the West Coast Eagles at The Gabba.
The partnership will see ticketing initiatives for Members and fans, knowledge and philosophy exchanges between both the NRL, NRLW, AFL and AFLW squads, specialist coaching swaps, Community appearances and special player game attendance moments.
With the Brisbane community at the heart of the initiative, the two brands will come together in May for a corporate Lunch at The Star mid-season, with a major joint Charity Partner to be announced soon.
Tickets are now available here.
Head coaches Michael Maguire and Chris Fagan will both speak at the event, with key players from both Clubs also to be in attendance.
Brisbane Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy said:
“This is a really exciting announcement for supporters of both clubs, code aside.
“As Brissy’s teams, we know it’ll be a fan favourite, and there are many synergies and learnings that both squads and clubs can take from each other.
“We’ve had some of our NRL squad visit Lions HQ at Brighton Homes Arena for some training in the pre-season and indeed we have welcomed some of their specialist kicking coaches to Red Hill and we look forward to continuing this knowledge share.
“It’s easy to get caught up in your own little bubble sometimes, but it’s safe to say that both Clubs have known success over the years, the Lions of course most recently – and we want to get better, together.
“Gone are the days of old where Clubs like ours should be seen as rivals, now it’s about working together, with a real focus on high performance and pride for our City.”
“There’s also a great natural rapport between the players, so this makes sense, and is another fantastic connection point, particularly for the community.
“There’s no doubt we may see some new fans to our great game and vice-versa, for the Lions.
“We can’t wait to get together in May for the Brisbane Lunch, which I’m sure will be the hottest ticket in town, I’m sure they’ll be snapped up quickly.”
Lions CEO Greg Swann said
“Queenslanders love their sport, and both the Lions and Broncos have an ever-growing fan base but we’re also major economic drivers for the Brisbane economy.
“More than 825,000 people attend our events across The Gabba and Suncorp Stadium, we have millions tune into our match broadcasts, home games employ thousands of people and together we have over 115,000 members.
“The Broncos are very familiar to the Lions, and we’ve done a fair bit with them behind the scenes over the years, but this will be one of the first occasions we’ve joined forces so publicly to promote the city and share our stories across codes.
“We’re always looking at new ways to engage with our fans, the wider sporting audience and celebrate the contribution of sport to the city of Brisbane, so there’s no doubt this will be a terrific occasion.”
