Brisbane Lions forward Charlie Cameron remains a chance to play in Sunday’s Round 2 clash with the West Coast Eagles at the Gabba.

The exciting forward, who was a late out ahead of Saturday’s win over Sydney due to calf tightness, ran at training on Tuesday and will train again on Thursday to prove his fitness.

In further good news, defender Darcy Gardiner is available to play this weekend in what would be his first match since Round 8 last season.

Gardiner has been in full training for several weeks and has been cleared to return at either AFL or VFL level.

Fellow defender Brandon Starcevich has entered concussion protocols and will be unavailable for selection this week.

The club is prioritizing Starcevich's well-being and will conduct additional screening and assessments before considering a return to play timeline.

The Lions also confirm Lincoln McCarthy will undergo surgery early next week to repair his ruptured ACL.

McCarthy ruptured his ACL in his right knee a fortnight ago when he was just days away from making his AFL return at the time.

The 31-year-old will be further assessed following surgery and begin his rehabilitation before McCarthy and the club can determine a return to play timeline.

As confirmed on Monday, scans cleared young forward Kai Lohmann of serious injury after he was subbed out of Saturday’s win with an ankle sprain.

The Lions expect Lohmann to only miss one to two weeks.
