The Blues won their round two encounter at Docklands on the back of an eight goal second term, with the Lions whittling a 41-point half time deficit back to 19 by the full time siren.
Voss says the Lions shouldn’t have such momentary lapses now because they are a better team.
“Carlton have the arsenal to score very quickly so we have to make sure that we make the most of our opportunities and limit theirs,” Voss said.
One of the Lions’ biggest challenges will be to stop an in-form Brendan Fevola who booted five goals in round two and bagged another six in Carlton’s 41-point win over West Coast on Friday night.
Full back Daniel Merrett is out for another two weeks, so Daniel Bradshaw may get called on to help out.
“We might be under pressure a little bit so we’ll put Daniel down there as a spare as we did on the weekend,” Voss said.
Voss has praised his rising crop of ball winners, with the likes of Justin Sherman, Josh Drummond, Rhan Hooper and Jed Adcock now being tagged by opposition teams.
“They are putting a lot of work into a lot of players which hopefully means that other players can step up should they have a pretty quiet match,” Voss said.
Voss said his side’s greater efficiency inside the forward 50 has been a key to their rise to the top four.
And it’s no fluke, with the coaching staff focusing on ball movement at training for the past month.
“We couldn’t hit the side of a barn at times. We were just missing some real easy options inside the forward 50. We’ve done a whole lot of work on that and I still think that we’ve got a lot to go,” Voss said.
Voss has urged his players to keep up the momentum as they strive to maintain their place in the top four.
“We’ve got a chasing pack, there’s not a lot of room to breathe in this competition right now,” Voss said.
“The reality is we haven’t achieved anything yet, it’s [only] round 10.”
Travis Johnstone is expected to be recalled after a best on ground effort for the Lions reserves on Sunday.
