Luke Hodge has called time on his decorated AFL career, with the 35-year-old informing his Brisbane Lions teammates that he has played his last game.
Hodge came to the Lions in the 2017 AFL Trade Period after 305 games, four premierships and two Norm Smith medals with Hawthorn.
During his two seasons at the Club, Hodge has been revered for his on-field leadership and generosity of knowledge to an emerging Lions group.
He played 41 games in the maroon, blue and gold, including the Lions’ recent AFL Finals Series, the Club’s first in a decade.
General Manager of Football David Noble said the Club is grateful to Hodge for the commitment and passion he has shown over his tenure at the Gabba.
“Luke has been a magnificent leader to our group on and off the field,” he said.
“He is a man of action and has led by example.
“The Lions will be forever grateful that he, Lauren and their boys took the leap of faith up to Brisbane.”
Senior Coach Chris Fagan has worked with Hodge at both Hawthorn and the Lions for a combined sixteen years and congratulated him on a sensational career.
“I have enjoyed having such an honest relationship with Hodgey over our time together at both the Hawks and Lions,” he said.
“He is full of wisdom and I’m grateful he imparted that onto me and the players.
“I believe he has helped change the perception of the Lions in the footy world.
“He has made the Lions a place that others want to go to.”
