Brisbane Lions utility Brent Staker will make his long-awaited senior return this Saturday afternoon against Essendon at Etihad Stadium.

Staker has been named in the Lions’ Round 8 senior side for the first time since Round 23 of 2011 following a second knee reconstruction.

The 28-year-old completed a full pre-season in the lead-up 2013, before undergoing further surgery which delayed the start to his senior campaign.

He has since played three matches with the Lions Reserves in the NEAFL, where he has proven his fitness.

Staker’s inclusion comes at expense of his housemate Josh Green, who has been omitted.

The Lions will wear a 3-Peat ‘Hero’ guernsey against the Bombers to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Club’s memorable hat-trick of AFL premierships.

The guernsey design is a replica of the one worn by the Lions against Essendon in the 2001 AFL Grand Final.
