Hearing the supporters chant “Lions” at the conclusion of their Semi Final loss was one of the more special moments of Senior Chris Fagan’s career in footy.
Joining Mike and Dom on The Roar Deal, Fagan said he will never forget that moment at the Gabba.
“It was a great moment to be honest, it was surprising,” he said.
“It was sort of emotional in some ways. I think it showed some of the intelligence of our supporters.
“I thought it was one of the more special moments I’ve ever experienced in footy.”
Although supporters would have been disappointed with the outcome, Fagan said the way they stayed in the stands after the match was testament to their devotion.
“It was a great reflection of our supporters and how loyal they are,” he said.
Fagan admitted the team are still getting over the frustrating loss to the GIANTS.
“We won every statistical area that you need to do to beat GWS,” he said.
“We won the numbers game, but we didn’t win the game, what are the reasons?”
Fagan said the Richmond loss came down to accuracy in front of goal, while Saturday’s loss to the GIANTS was due to little moments of brain fade and overlooking good options inside 50.
Looking ahead, he said there would be no guarantees for the 2020 season.
“Just because you play in a Finals series and have a great year, it doesn’t guarantee anything,” he said.
“We can’t get back that Finals Series, but we can learn from it.
“Our next job is to prepare really well for the season and turn up in great shape.”
