First-year Lion Jacqui Yorston has been nominated as a Round 6 AFLW Rising Star.

In her debut season, Yorston has proven herself with strong tackling pressure and quick decision making when under pressure. Round 6 was her best performance this season, with 12 disposals and eight tackles.

Yorston made her debut in Round 4 and has averaged 10 touches and 7.7 tackles a match over her three AFLW matches this season.

Yorston began her junior career with the Kedron Lions before joining the Wilston Grange Gorillas. 

2017 was her standout year which saw her part of the premiership side that year as well as captaining the NAB AFL Women’s Under-17 squad for her third year in a row and earning two best and fairest awards for the year.

In 2018, Yorston had a promising Under-18 Championships campaign with her kicking and tacking pressure features in her game and earning her a place in the Under-18 All-Australian Squad.

After featuring in the Lions’ undefeated Winter Series team in 2018, Yorston officially joined the Club in the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Draft, selection 71 overall.

Carlton's Georgia Gee was impressive against the Lions in Round 6 also, collecting 12 disposals (including eight kicks) at 75 per cent efficiency, two marks and a clearance. Gee was named alongside Yorston for the Round 6 Rising Star nomination. 

Players are eligible for this year's award if they were 21 or under as of January 1, 2019, and had not been previously nominated.
