NEAFL forwards dominated for the Brisbane Lions in their 11 goal victory against Redlands on Sunday.
Draftee Connor Ballenden bagged five, while Josh Walker did not miss with six goals next to his name. But it was their selfless approach and care for teammates which satisfied Head of Development Scott Borlace most.
“Probably the most pleasing thing about the tall forwards and the small forwards on the weekend was the selflessness of those. The
"Looking back on the tape there were so many selfless acts, which has been a real focus of the senior side,” he said.
“For our guys that are striving to get into the Senior team, to see them do selfless acts on our level is really pleasing.
“The question we get asked at match committee about our players is did they play a selfless game of footy? Were they playing their role?”
All players are gunning for a role in the Senior side and Borlace believes all have the right mentality to play at that level.
“The little things – the AFL standards we want from our players, we drive that really hard at NEAFL level so that when they do step up at AFL level they slot straight in and hopefully can build a career from that.”
