The Brisbane Lions have redrafted Claye Beams with the first selection in the 2017 AFL Rookie Draft.
After making his debut in Round 1, 2011, Beams played 54 games for the Lions over seven seasons before being delisted in October.
Injuries have troubled Beams throughout his career but he displayed excellent form in the backend of 2017 at Senior level and in the NEAFL in leading the Lions to the premiership.
Beams is a damaging runner off half-back with a penetrating kick and excellent vision. He played nine Senior matches in 2017 and averaged 14 disposals and kicked four goals.
The Lions' General Manager of Football David Noble was thrilled to welcome back Beams.
“Claye is a great role player for us in the team. He’s a terrific leader, a mentor and buys into the Club," Noble said.
Multiple injuries have prevented
Claye is the younger brother of Club Captain, Dayne.
