The Brisbane Lions’ medical team will soon make a decision on how best to proceed with Luke McGuane’s troublesome knee injury.

McGuane has struggled with a knee complaint since joining the Club as a free agent during the off-season.

Despite making a cameo appearance during the pre-season, the injury ultimately kept him sidelined for the opening month of the season.

He returned in Round 5 in time to face his former side Richmond at the Gabba, but has struggled to have an impact in his opening three games with the Club.

Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton, of the Bupa Recovery Team, said McGuane’s knee continues to cause the 27-year-old problems.

“Luke McGuane’s been having some issues with his knee, pretty much since he transferred over from Richmond,” Burton told LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report.

“He had an interrupted pre-season and we’ve been managing that knee, but now it’s gotten to a point where we might need to have some intervention.

“We’re just working through that with our doctors at the moment. Whether that’s a surgery option or whether we rest him for a little bit, we’ll work that out as the week goes.”

Meanwhile, Burton revealed that Jonathan Brown was rested in Round 7 after “pulling up a bit rough” from the previous week’s trip to Wellington.

The New Zealand trip also affected Pearce Hanley’s chances of playing last weekend, although Burton said the reigning Club Champion Runner-up was a “good chance” to face the Bombers.
