Brisbane Lions Captain Dayne Zorko revealed to RadioTAB this morning the influence former greats of the Club have had on his leadership approach.
Zorko, in the early stages of his AFL career, shared the field with triple premiership players Simon Black and Jonathan Brown.
“They really led from the front in terms of their performance. When times got very difficult it was very noticeable that those were the guys that stood up and tried to make a difference,” Zorko said.
“They really stood strong.”
Now that Zorko is in their shoes, he realises the impact his behaviour has on his teammates. That they will look to him in tough situations.
“If I throw the toys out of the cot, then they’re more likely to do the same thing."
“They were able to steady the ship just with their body language.”
Zorko admits the first half of the 2018 AFL season has been frustrating, with the team on the wrong end of many close games.
The leadership group would go into Fagan’s office the Monday after the game seeking answers.
“We’re so close, what’s happening."
“We have to stay calm, it’s going to take time and I think that’s what Fages reiterated to us as well. It’s not going to be a quick fix.
“We’ve got to remember some of our boys have only played 20 games.”
The team have since celebrated three consecutive wins from Round 15-17 and will travel to Geelong tomorrow morning to meet the Cats on Saturday.
