My question relates to the membership offers for Melbourne based supporters. If Brisbane are only playing 5-6 matches in Melbourne, why is there not a three-game membership offer for supporters?

The current membership deals are not great value for money and discourage supporters from purchasing a membership. We are paying similar amounts to Brisbane based supporters who have 11 matches in the season. And they also have the option of a three-game membership.

Hi Martin,

The vast majority of Melbourne supporters have always requested to have access to as many games in Melbourne as possible and we fight hard for this with the AFL each season.

As we are the away team, we incur game costs from the home team which need to be covered as part of the membership. Unfortunately, we have no control over the costs nominated by the home team or the stadium access, however we try to keep Victorian membership as affordable as possible based on the number of accessible games in Melbourne which is why the price fluctuates year on year, as we adjust pricing to be fixture dependant.

To try and compensate for the smaller amount of games in Melbourne, we offer free General Admission access to a nominated amount of games at the Gabba as part of the membership should our Victorian members wish to travel to Brisbane. This is free access and these costs are not built into the membership, they are an added benefit of being a Lions Victorian based member.

If you are unable to attend one of your eligible matches, we always encourage you to forward your membership ticket to family or friends to make the most of your membership and to get as much support behind the team wherever we are playing!

My question is about getting the club out of financial debt.

As a Brisbane Lions member I see the financial statement each year and the debt just keeps going up and up.

I was thinking why don’t we do a fundraiser night like Melbourne did about four or five years ago, they made over one million on the night. We can get all our sponsors to donate something to auction off.

Hi Brodie,

The Club currently conducts a number of fundraising initiatives each year such as; Brisbane Lions Club Raffle, Give-A-Thon, Bequest Programs to name a few, all of which have contributed to raising significant funds over the past few years - all with thanks to our wonderful members and supporters.

In saying that, it is definitely an area in which we can continue to grow and advance our fundraising programs, in fact, the Club is currently working through a number of areas that can continue to grow our revenue streams and fundraising is one division in which we are looking to increase our internal resourcing.

How has the sacking of the Ipswich Council impacted the proposed Springfield training and administration base?

Hi Heather,

The Ipswich Council is currently in the hands of an Administrator. As our Heads of Agreement in relation to Springfield is with Ipswich City Council and not with any particular individuals there is no impact on our proposed project.

We have been in correspondence with the Administrator of Ipswich City Council and the Administrator has confirmed to us that Ipswich City Council will continue to honour the Heads of Agreement in place.
