Brisbane Lions midfielder Mitch Robinson may require surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot, which would bring an end to his season. 

The Lions will decide next week whether Robinson needs to have his foot operated on after he sustained the fracture in the game against Sydney in round seven.

Robinson was already listed as out for at least 10 weeks due to the foot injury, with Lions football manager David Noble saying scans early next week would determine if the former Blue requires an operation.

"The plan was always to leave him in the (moon) boot and reassess after a three to four week period, so there's been no setback there," Noble told News Limited.

"If it has not got any worse, if the fracture has started to heal he might be available for the last four or five weeks, then you have to weigh up, if it looks like it will just be one or two (games) I'm not sure that’s valuable. 

"He'll have another scan next week and we'll know more then; that will tell us if there has been some healing." 

Robinson averaged a tick under 20 disposals from his seven games this year and his leadership, particularly within such a youthful side, would be greatly missed if he has ruled out for the season.

The Lions have the bye this week before facing Fremantle in round 12.
