Brisbane Lions’ Football Strategy Coach Danny Daly spoke to RadioTAB on assigning Tom Rockliff the job of tagging Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs in Sunday afternoon’s 30 point win.
The coaching staff were unanimous in their praise for the vice-captain, labelling his defensive effort “selfless” and crucial to the Lions’ victory yesterday afternoon.
“It shows our younger guys that our experienced and leadership group are setting the scene and setting the way and they have to play their role as well. It’s just a good result as a whole for the team,” Daly said.
Daly had approached Senior Coach Chris Fagan with the idea of Rockliff’s tag earlier in the week.
“I thought Rocky was sort of out of form a bit and having a job like that is the thing that gets you back up and going again. I’ll give Danny Daly the credit for that,” Fagan said.
The team are full of confidence heading into their West Coast Eagles clash this Sunday.
“You know winning three or four games on the run home, it just gives so much positivity to our playing group and our supporters and our footy club in terms of next year,” Daly said.
