Dayne Beams will Captain the Brisbane Lions in 2017.
The 27-year-old will lead a seven-man Leadership Group charged with upholding and driving the Club’s values.
Tom Rockliff has been named as Vice-Captain, while Dayne Zorko has been appointed Deputy Vice-Captain.
Beams, Rockliff and Zorko will be supported by Stefan Martin, Allen Christensen, Ryan Lester and Harris Andrews, who offer a balance of experience and youth.
Beams arrived at the Lions in 2015 after spending six years at Collingwood, where he won a Premiership Medal in 2010. He is expected to play a big part in the midfield this season, having now recovered from the string of injuries which affected his 2015 and 2016 campaigns.
General Manager of Football David Noble praised Beams for his strong leadership qualities.
“Dayne is someone who inspires the guys around him to get the best out of themselves, both on and off the field. He is a family man, and has grown into a leader in the short time that he has been at the Club,” said Noble.
“Each of the seven members of the Leadership Group are passionate about helping Brisbane become relevant again, and will continue to drive the direction we are heading in, living the standards that are expected of our professional footballers."
“The range of experience in this group is an affirmation of our expectation that players of all levels strive to be leaders and uphold our core values."
Whilst Leading Teams facilitated the development of the players trademark and behaviours, the football department and CEO recommended the leadership group and structure to the Board.
