FOR THE second time in a week, Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss has praised his team’s tenacity after it emerged victorious from a fourth-quarter scrap with Carlton at the Gabba on Thursday night.

Just as they did against West Coast at the same ground just five days earlier, the Lions poured on the final-term power to run out 19-point winners.

They trailed by seven points at the final change and looked out on their feet, but found the run to kick six goals to two.

The win was all the more meritorious considering vice-captain Jed Adcock was taken off with a quad injury in the second quarter and did not return.

Voss said while seven-goal captain Jonathan Brown was super and was able to "drag the rest of the team", it was more than a one-man show.

He highlighted Luke Power’s fourth-quarter job on a rampant Marc Murphy, and Daniel Rich’s final-term lift as key contributions.

"Everyone had to go that extra little bit," he said.

"We lost a player early [Adcock] and that always stretches your resources [with a] five-day break, but they were able to will themselves to the contest, so you’ve got to say this group is pretty tough.

"I think that’s what I admire about the group. They laid that platform for themselves last year where they were very hard to beat, and they keep coming and coming and coming and coming, and that’s what you’ve got to admire about this group at the moment, they know how to go to the line.

"I think they’ve earned their chocky eggs."

Voss admitted the Lions were "hammered" at the stoppages (49-29) but said his team’s defensive pressure was enough to keep it in the contest.

"Ultimately it came down to they just dominated us at clearances," he said.

"Their stoppage work was far better than what ours was and it was no coincidence that when we started to win the ball in and around the contest, we started to give ourselves some more run and some more legs and give our forwards some opportunities."
