The Brisbane Lions’ NEAFL side will aim for their eleventh straight win against the Gold Coast SUNS in a curtain-raiser at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon.
Development Coach Zane Littlejohn says the side’s stacked attacking power has made them difficult for opposition teams to defend this season.
Brisbane’s depth was showcased in Round 19’s win over the Sydney Swans. The Lions had ten goal kickers, with five kicking multiple goals.
“To have our guys contribute across the whole day, not just rely on the one or two was really pleasing,” Littlejohn said.
“That probably makes us a bit of a threat going forward. When sides do their opposition on us they don’t know who to send their best defender to.”
After defeating the top-of-the-table Sydney side, the Lions now sit equal on points with the Swans on top of the ladder, albeit with a lower percentage.
“We set ourselves to try and beat them in contested possession and we managed to do that which was really pleasing.”
Next on the Lions hit list is the Gold Coast this Saturday afternoon. The SUNS sit fifth and will be motivated by potentially securing a home final if they win this game.
“We played them earlier in the year and we only got over the line by 5 points so we know they’re a really good opposition,” Littlejohn said.
“We’re going to have to be, again, at the top of our game.”
A win for Brisbane’s NEAFL side could inspire a successful afternoon at the Gabba as the Lions meet the SUNS in the 14th Q-Clash.
“We like to pride ourselves on setting the scene early, especially when it’s at our home ground, before our AFL side,” Littlejohn said.
