New Brisbane Lions recruit Callum Ah Chee believes his best football is still ahead of him.
The 22-year-old had his first tour of the Lions facilities at The Gabba today, after officially signing on with the Club on the final day of the Telstra AFL Trade Period yesterday.
He comes from the Gold Coast SUNS where he spent four years and played 45 AFL games. He only managed one senior game in 2019, due to back-to-back injuries but is in good shape now.
“I think I can play my best footy at the Lions and honestly I can’t wait,” Ah Chee told local media earlier today.
“I’m fine now and have been doing my training in the off season, so I’m fit and ready to go when day one of pre-season is here.
“Not looking forward to the three kilometre [time trial] though.”
Ah Chee revealed Senior Coach Chris Fagan was influential in his move north.
“I think Fages himself is such a welcoming, caring coach and that was really the drawing point for me.
“The way he develops relationships with his players seems amazing so can’t wait.”
Ah Chee started his career in Western Australia where he mostly played in the forward line but in recent years he has shifted to half back/wing from the defensive line.
“I’m a pretty selfless player, I like to bring my teammates into the game,” he said.
“I think I’m pretty smart with the ball and make good decisions and can take a pretty good mark of the ball.
“Hopefully I can bring that to the Lions and boost their stocks a bit and hopefully we can get a bit further into the Finals Series next year.
“[But] I’m just worrying about meeting my teammates at the moment and getting to know everyone so I can set myself up for a big year.”
