Coach Craig Starcevich expects the nine new AFLW draftees at the Lions to make an immediate impact on the team.
The talent within the group is now so deep, Starcevich is unsure of what his best 21 could like come Round 1.
“You look at the list of 30 that you’ve got, what’s the best 21 you’ve got out of this?,” Starcevich said.
“To try and work out what your best 21 looks like is really tough.”
Starcevich introduced the new draftees to local media, sponsors, Lions staff and board members at The Gabba this morning.
Lily Postlethwaite (Pick No. 3), Belle Dawes (Pick No. 15) and Cathy Svarc (Pick No. 16) attended the meet and greet at the Club after attending NAB AFLW Draft in Melbourne the day before.
They were joined by Tahlia Hickie (Pick No. 28), Selina Priest (Pick No.45) Dakota Davidson (Pick No. 60), Maria Moloney (Pick No. 75) and other sport rookie Orla O’Dwyer. Hannah Hillman and South Australian Lucy Bellinger were the only players absent.
“The nine from yesterday’s draft, we’re over the moon with,” he said.
“It was tough finding the nine players and we’ve probably been really selective about good character, ability, work rate, work ethic all those sorts of things.
They’ve been really front of mind this time.”
The Lions AFLW team are expected to return for pre-season training in November.
