The Brisbane Lions are deeply saddened by the passing of former Fitzroy player Victor (Charlie) Wanhope on Monday, aged 81.
Charlie played his first senior game with Fitzroy in August 1953, without having trained with the Club, after completing the home-and-away games with Diamond Creek in the Diamond Valley Football League.
He is believed to be the only player to have played a game with an VFL/AFL club without having trained or attended the club prior to playing a senior match. He was 19 years and about 15 days at the time.
He ended up playing a total of four senior matches in two seasons with the Club.
The Club extends its heartfelt sympathy to his wife Maureen, daughters Debbie and Karen, and families.
