THE BRISBANE Lions have picked up winner of The Recruit Matt Eagles as a Category B rookie.
The 199cm ruckman edged out Daniel Cox (second) and Jordan Treloar (third) to win the second season of the show.
Eagles, 26, will complement Stefan Martin and Archie Smith in the ruck department for the Lions.
Each club awarded votes in a 3-2-1 style to the three finalists to decide who would win the show.
Clubs then decided if they wanted to select Eagles, with the player himself having the choice of which of those clubs he went to.
Greater Western Sydney and Collingwood were the other teams to make themselves available to Eagles.
Brisbane Lions List Manager Peter Schwab told Eagles that with young Archie Smith and 30-year-old Stefan Martin the other main ruckmen on the club’s list, he had a real chance to play AFL football sooner rather than later.
After consulting with his parents and The Recruit coach Mick Malthouse, Eagles chose the Lions as his preferred club.
Mick Malthouse, who was the coach on the show, described Eagles as an aggressive player who can find the ball at ground level.
We’d like to welcome Matt Eagles to the Club.
