The Brisbane Lions have finalised the selection panel to pick a new Senior Coach.
The five-person panel, which will be led by Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann, includes:
- Peter Schwab, Lions Talent Acquisition and Retention Manager, three-time Hawthorn premiership player, and former AFL Director of Coaching from 2010-13;
- Matti Clements, Director and Senior Psychologist at Mental Edge Consulting - which specialises in team culture and performance enhancement - with 15 years of experience in elite sport, a past member of the AFL Education Committee, and former General Manager of People and Culture at St Kilda where she was on the panel that appointed current coach Alan Richardson;
- Simon Black, three-time premiership winning midfielder, and a Lions assistant coach for the past two seasons before stepping away last month to focus on his rapidly expanding Simon Black Australian Rules Academy.
- The Club’s new General Manager of Football will also be a key member of the panel, once the Club finalises the successful candidate for that role in coming weeks.
Swann said the panel possessed expertise in a range of areas key to identifying the best option for the senior coaching role.
“There is lot of footballing experience in Peter Schwab and Simon Black, while Matti Clements gives us the independent insight we need into the psychological aspects of the job,” said Swann.
“Add to that group our new General Manager of Football – and we are well into the process of finalising a high quality candidate for that role – and you have a really strong panel to select our new Senior Coach.”
Swann said the panel would interview a shortlist of candidates, although an exact timeframe had not been set with AFL finals still taking place.
“The process will take as long as it takes,” said Swann.
“This is a vitally important decision for the football club and we will not be rushed.”
