The Brisbane Lions have drafted four players in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft on Monday.
The Lions have taken former GWS midfielder Jake Barrett with pick #2, Glenelg’s Mitchell Hinge at pick #20, Casey Scorpions ruckman Oscar McInerney at pick #37 and Redlands midfielder Blake Grewar.
Barrett, drafted to the GIANTS in 2013, is a tough midfielder with great work-rate and endurance.
Despite only playing one senior match in his career, Barrett was crucial in GWS’ NEAFL victory over the Swans in September. He gathered 32 possessions and kicked two goals.
The Lions sought permission for Barrett to train with the Lions’ 1-4 year players.
At pick #20, the Lions selected South Australian Mitchell Hinge.
Hinge is very competitive and loves body-on-body contact and smashing through packs.

He is described as a poised left-footed medium utility who excels one-on-one and in taking intercept marks. He uses the ball exceptionally well, particularly by foot.
At pick #37, the Lions selected 204cm Victorian Oscar McInerney.
McInerney is the type of player many AFL clubs crave. He is a tall, well-built, athletic ruckman with clean hands below his knees.
This season, the 22-year-old broke into the senior Casey side and held his own, booting four goals from six games.
The Club also drafted Redland Best and Fairest midfielder Blake Grewar under the Queensland zone selection.
Grewar was one of the NEAFL competition’s finest performers in 2016. The 23-year-old was recognised with Team of the Year selection and finished in the top five of the NEAFL MVP voting.
