In this week’s Carlton Draught ‘Throwback Thursday’ we go back to Round 14, 2007 when the Brisbane Lions defeated the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco Oval.
The Lions, ranked 13th the previous year and struggling with continuous form in the previous seven matches, were put up against the reigning premiers and weren’t meant to win.
But they did, and by 27 points in a win that Coach Leigh Matthews would be proud of.
Seven points down at half time, Tim Notting sparked the comeback with a major in the final quarter before the team managed another five goals to secure the win.
Jared Brennan and Jonathan Brown both led the goal-kicking with four each while AFL Hall of Famer Nigel Lappin had 33 disposals.
The win was even more special as it was held in Heritage Round with the Lions players wearing a Fitzroy jumper.
Brisbane Lions 13.13 (91) def West Coast 9.10 (64)
