Where do you think the team’s major improvement is going to come from this season?
Pete from Craigmore (SA)

Hopefully our biggest improvement this year will be in our skills. Last year we had a pretty low efficiency rate in hitting targets and it is something that Vossy has worked on with the group a fair bit over the pre-season.

Also I think some of the younger blokes are ready to take that next step and take on more responsibility. Their development will probably help us out as well.

Ash, you have that very important gift of being accurate in front of goals. Why is that?
Mick from Kingscliff (NSW)

You might have to check those stats Mick because I’ve missed a few lately.

I try not to think too much when I am lining up for goal. I generally look for a target behind the big sticks to aim at, kick through the ball and hopefully keep it straight.

What is your favourite food?
Bryan from Texas (USA)

It’s probably not something our dietician would approve of, but steak and chips would have to be my favourite meal.

Hey MacG, who are the funniest guys to be around at the Club?
Scott from Sunnybank (QLD)

Most of the funny blokes have left the Club over the last few years. Blokes like Mal Michael and Anthony Corrie were funny guys and were always pulling pranks. It’s died down a bit lately.

Jamie Charman and Troy Selwood think they’re pretty funny while Luke Power comes up with a good joke every now and then – but they are pretty rare.

G’day Ash. Do you and any of the boys play Dream Team or SuperCoach? If so, are you in your own team?
Andy from Brisbane (QLD)

I don’t have my own Dream Team or anything like that, but I know a few of the boys have. They’re pretty popular these days in footy clubs.

I think Jared Brennan picked himself in his Dream Team but he’s not getting any points at the moment because he’s injured.

What do you do when you get puffed out on the ground and you can’t make it to the interchange bench?
Jack from Mentone (VIC)

It’s not too bad. I’m usually down in the backline so the trainers come out pretty regularly with water.

You just have to try and suck the air in as quickly as you can before the ball comes back down into defence.

Hey Ash, I was just interested in your new tattoos. How many hours have you spent getting work done to them since the end of the 2008 season? Can you reveal the meaning behind your tattoos?
Fletch from Collingwood (VIC)

Howdy Ash. Tell me about your ink. Are you a fan of Japanese style? Good luck with the season.
Scott from Elwood (VIC)

I’ve spent a fair while on that tatts over the pre-season – probably 20 hours all up on both arms. I’ve still got about 10 hours to go before they are finished.

The one on my right forearm is dedicated to my family and the one on my left arm was just a design that I always wanted to get.

There’s a bloke named Tyson who does them and basically just comes up with a style and design I like and does it.

Will the Lions Reserves use any players from the Sunny Coast this year like my bro?
Dan from Cooroy (QLD)

The reserves team is generally filled up with young blokes from the Sunshine Coast – so your brother could be a chance.

Last year we only used guys from the Sunshine Coast as top-up players, but this year I’m pretty sure we can use any under 18 kids from around Queensland. That’s why the team is known as the Brisbane Lions Reserves now and not the Suncoast Lions as it was known over the past couple of years.

Hey Ash, good to see the column back for 2009. Do you guys ever watch the reserves play in the curtain raiser before your game or if they are playing the next day?
Bec from Wishart (QLD)

We have to be at the ground about two hours before a game for the team meeting, so most of the senior boys go up the race and watch about 10-15 minutes of the third quarter before the meeting starts.

If they are playing the next day, most of the boys will go down and support the boys and see how they are going.

What are some of the different music tastes of the boys. I hear Joel Patfull loves his ‘doof doof’?
A. Miles from Forrest Lake (QLD)

Yeah, ‘Porky’ Patfull loves his house music and is always listening to it loudly in the changerooms. I think he is a bit of a groover.

Big Browny loves his AC/DC and Luke Power doesn’t mind a bit of Wham!

I was watching the footy on Saturday night and they mentioned you got injured – sorry to hear about that. What exactly did you hurt?
Callum from Eltham (VIC)

I just got a bit of a corky in my quad. It was only early in the game, so it restricted my running a bit for the rest of the match.

It’s nothing serious so I’ll be fine for this week.
