The Hyundai Help For Kids Lions Academy were dealt their second loss of the AFL Academy Series, beaten by Sydney 13.11 (89) to 8.10 (58) in Round 4 of the competition at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday.
The Lions’ U18s now sit with a 2-2 win-loss record with one round remaining in the series.
Academy Manager Luke Curran said while it was an improved effort on their Round 3 loss to Tasmania, it was disappointing that they weren’t able to sustain the effort against the Swans.
“Again (it was) another game of contrast with some good periods where the boys controlled the game with good effort, ball use and decision making interspersed with lapses of concentration and inability to play roles as instructed,” said Curran.
“The boys got within five points early in the last quarter but couldn’t mentally and physically sustain the effort as the Swans boys were cleaner with their hands around contests all game and finished off the game running hard.”
The Academy will play their last game in the AFL Academy Series on Saturday against GWS at Broadbeach at 10.00am.
