Talent and strategy - those are the two words that sum up the Brisbane Lions' attack on the Trade Period and AFL Draft.
"It's all about talent and making sure that our strategy going forward for the next three years is really clear and everything that we do in regard to trade and the draft is geared around that," said the Club's General Manager of Football David Noble as the Lions team entered club meetings at Etihad Stadium to start the the Trade Period this morning.
When quizzed on speculation around Captain Tom Rockliff and Pearce Hanley, Noble said: "We expect those two guys who are contracted to be there next year but trade week in an interesting period of time.
"We want to maximise this year's Draft. Picks are really important to us ... nothing is off the table and certainly we're open to anything."
The Lions currently have four picks in the first 30 for next month's Draft - a great base to stockpile talent to maximise the Club's new start under new Senior Coach Chris Fagan.
Asked about Rockliff potentially leaving via a trade, Noble said the midfielder would meet with Fagan on Wednesday.
"I think it's probably right that Chris meets with the captain to start with so that will be the first port of call," said Noble.
When questioned on Hanley, Noble said the Club was determined to stay true to its strategy.
"Chris has come in as a new coach and we need to know really clearly what our strategy is," said Noble.
"If players can help us in the next three years then they'll be required."
