Brisbane Lions invite all their fans young and old to Get to the Gabba for Round 23 on Saturday 5 September at 1.45pm; not just to watch the Lions take on the Western Bulldogs, but also to farewell a Club legend.
The Brisbane Lions mascot Bernie Gabba Vegas has decided to hang up his boots after an illustrious career alongside his favourite team, the Brisbane Lions.
For the last time ever, young fans can farewell and high five Bernie as he walks in a lap of honour around the ground during halftime at the Round 23 match against the Bulldogs.
Bernie has loved his time at the Lions, but after many years of performing for the crowds and getting young Lions fans on board to join his ‘McDonalds Bernie’s Gabba Gang’, Bernie’s roar has grown hoarse, and his cartwheels and flips are getting harder to execute.
Bernie has enlisted the help of a young gun, Roy – the Brisbane Lions’ newest mascot to pick up where he leaves, and has spent the last few months bringing the rookie up to speed with how the Club works, how to flip and cartwheel, and how important his role is to young fans as a mascot. Check out the video played during our Round 20 Carlton match to see just how good Roy is getting under Bernie’s guidance.
Don’t miss your chance to farewell Bernie at Round 23. If you haven’t got tickets yet, get your seats here.
