Black may become super sub
Michael Voss may start using Simon Black as a substitute to extend the career of his star midfielder
Black's contract expires at the end of 2012 but contains clauses that would trigger another season if he wants to go around again.
Voss - a long-time midfield mate of Black's before becoming his coach in 2009 - said he would sit down and speak with the Brownlow medallist in coming weeks and explore every avenue possible to keep him playing.
At 33, Black is the sixth oldest player in the competition, behind Dustin Fletcher (37), James McDonald (35), Brent Harvey (34), Dean Brogan (33) and teammate Ben Hudson (33).
Black has averaged 25 disposals per match through 12 games this season, despite nursing a knee injury.

Hawthorn champion Shane Crawford recently said the substitute option could extend the career of great players like Harvey, Chris Judd and Gary Ablett in their twilight years.
It could also work the other way for Black, where he is the one substituted after busting his boiler for a half or three quarters.
Voss said it was something he would consider.
"There's some merit in that but there's still some stigma attached to the sub, and putting a great player in a jacket doesn’t look that great," Voss said.
"But if it means making the career of our players that little bit longer, and they can add something valuable, we'll look at all options.
"He has mentoring and leadership, and just how he's held among our group, as long as we can get Simon Black we'll look at all those avenues."
Black has said since the start of the season he would wait until the end of the year before making a decision on his future.
Voss said great players had a different mentality to most, and that would factor in his decision.
"I haven't spoken to Blacky yet, but he's been in good form and if the heart's still in it and the head still wants it, we'll sit down and chat about that," he said.
"I think the psychology with champions is that you've got to be happy with the level you're at too.
"It's easy to look at it and say he can play as a sub, but these guys have played at such a high level for such a long period of time that they have such genuine pride in the way they perform.
"There'll be an acceptable minimum they'll go to before they decide enough is enough. We'll wait and see where Blacky's headspace is.
"It's almost like instead of being top 10 (player in the League), you're top 50 or top 100 - it's still good enough and better than probably 500 others. We'll just look at all those options."
Voss said he would also consider using Black as a more regular forward option if it helped maintain his body.
"I don't think I've seen too many players that can read off a pack as well as Simon Black, whether that's at a ruck contest or whether that's around marking contest," he said.
"He can add some real value there and kick some goals for us and you've seen he goes left and right so there's not an issue on his finishing skills."
