It’s Friday! And to celebrate the end of another week we’re broadening your Lions trivia with Fun Fact Friday!
The much-anticipated 2015 Club Champion Awards will be held tomorrow, Saturday 12 September and there are plenty of rumours going around as to who will take out the prestigious Merrett-Murray Medal.
You’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out who wins however, you might be interested in the below facts!
No player in the history of the Merrett-Murray Medal (18 years) has won the award after playing less than 18 matches.
Interestingly, the record was actually ‘less than 20 games’ but Rocky won having played just 18 games last year.
As Dayne Beams is going in as one of the favourites, he’s only played just 16 matches so he’ll be writing history if he wins this year.
Tom Rockliff is the only player on the Lions’ current list to have won a Merrett-Murray Medal.
With the departure of Jonathan Brown and Joel Patfull last year, Rocky is the only former winner still on the Club’s list.
Fair to say he probably can’t win it this year so we’ll most certainly be crowning a new champion!
Dayne Zorko has never finished worse than 7th in the Lions Club Champion Award.
And it doesn’t end there.
Zorko finished 7th in his Rookie Year (2012), followed by an equal 4th in 2013 and second last year.
So, he has improved his position each year since he started with the Lions meaning the only way to compete the pattern is to finish at Number 1 this year!
Can he do it? Who will win? Have you say in our poll below.
