The Brisbane Lions trained as a full 47-man squad for the first time on Monday.
Six new draftees joined the main group in the humid Queensland heat at Coorparoo.
Josh Schache, Eric Hipwood, Ben Keays, Rhys Mathieson, Sam Skinner and Reuben William spent the morning touring The Gabba facilities – meeting staff and players before heading to Giffin Park to train with the team for the first time.
The new draftees were eased into training but took part in several high intensity skill drills before the rest of the squad completed a series of challenging sprints around the boundary.
Rhys Mathieson comes to the Lions from the Geelong Falcons and said the Sunshine State weather would take time to adjust to.
“Coming from Melbourne I didn’t expect it to be that hot, I definitely blew up a bit but it was good to get out there and train with the boys,” he said.
“Lambo (Craig Lambert) gave us a tour of the boardroom. It was great to see the history of the Club.”
