After becoming the only player in Fitzroy’s Club history to boot over 100 goals in a single season, in 1983, Bernie ‘Superboot’ Quinlan was back the following year to kick over 100 goals yet again.
His 100th goal in 1984 came in the 18th minute of the first quarter after taking his third mark of the game, and not before he’d kicked two goals. Lining up his shot, he had it in the bag and the crowd had mobbed him as soon as the ball was through the goals.
The goal-kicking superstar was equipped with arguably the most lethal boot the game has ever seen, making an art form of comfortably kicking goals from anywhere within a 60m range of the big sticks – and earning him the name Superboot.
With over 366 games under his belt, Bernie Quinlan kicked 817 goals throughout his career and remains one of the Club’s most revered kickers to date.
