"Did you know over two million Australians, or 1 in 10, will seek food relief at some point each year” (Foodbank, 2015).
Hunger is one of this Australia’s biggest crises, but Foodbank is tackling it head on. As the country’s largest food relief organisation, Foodbank provide an average 40 million meals a year to over 2,800 charities and 1,000 schools around the country.
The Brisbane Lions have partnered up to support Foodbank with their fight against and awareness of hunger in Australia. In the lead up to the final Brisbane Lions home game of the 2015 Season, we are getting on board in a number of ways; with staff volunteering their time at Foodbank HQ, with players getting involved in local school breakfast programs, and a call to arms for patrons entering the stadium at Round 23 to dig deep and donate on their way in.
Foodbank volunteers will be stationed at main gates around the stadium pre-game at the Round 23 clash against the Bulldogs on Saturday 5 September, and they will be relying on the generosity of patrons entering the stadium to assist in their fight against hunger.
The Brisbane Lions urge all members, fans and patrons attending the Round 23 match to bring a donation (see ‘Essentials List’ for ideas) with them to support the cause and help reduce hunger in Australia. Any donation big or small counts and will go towards improving the life of another Australian in need.
Even if you’re not attending the game, supporting Foodbank is easy. More info on the great work Foodbank do can be found here.
