In this week's LionsTBT We're taking you all the way back to Sunday the 30th of March 1997. On this day the Brisbane Lions made their first official AFL appearance as a merged entity against eventual Premiers Adelaide at Football Park.

The team was largely familiar to the Bears side that bowed out in the previous year's Preliminary Final, with Fitzroy young guns Chris Johnson and Jarrod Molloy the notable inclusions.

The entire competition watched with interest to see how a team merged from two Clubs would fare under a new banner.

A high-quality and entertaining first quarter saw 11 goals kicked, with the Crows taking a narrow five-point lead into the first break. Darryl White, meanwhile, etched his named into the history books by becoming the first goal-kicker for the newly formed Lions.

But the home side broke the game apart in the second term, before going onto claim a 36-point victory over the Lions.

Reigning Brownlow Medallist Michael Voss was among the best for the visitors, with 23 disposals and an equal team-high three goals. Fellow Co-Captain Alastair Lynch also booted three, while Marcush Ashcroft, Shaun Hart and Nigel Lappin were also notable contributors.
