Brisbane Lions AFC is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter McGregor to the Club’s Board of Directors.

Mr McGregor, a Melbourne-based Managing Director with the global investment bank, Nomura, has been appointed to one of the Board’s four expertise director positions, as per the Club Constitution.

The appointment was ratified by the Club’s Board this week.

Mr McGregor, a life-long Brisbane Lions and Fitzroy supporter, brings to the Board extensive experience across all aspects of the finance industry.

Over the past 25 years, Mr McGregor has held numerous senior management and executive roles, including having been a Partner with Goldman Sachs JBWere, a Director of Hastings Funds Management and Chief Financial Officer of Asciano, one of Australia’s largest listed companies.

He also brings a wealth of experience as a Director, having previously served on the Boards of the Melbourne and Gold Coast airports, as well as the ASX-listed Australian Infrastructure Fund.

Lions Chairman Angus Johnson today welcomed Mr McGregor to the Club’s Board, saying: “I am delighted that Peter has agreed to join the Brisbane Lions as a Director.”

“Peter’s desire to be involved, his wealth of experience in the finance industry and his vast network of business associates - both in Australia and overseas, will make him an outstanding addition to our Board.”

Mr McGregor said a desire to see the Lions’ return as a dominant force in the AFL led him to join the current Board.

“I’ve spent 40 years supporting the Lions, first as Fitzroy then Brisbane,” he said.

“Without a doubt, the highlight of my time as a supporter of the club was the 2001 premiership and I am both committed and determined to be there when we win the next one.

“Like all of our players and staff, I hope to play a role in ensuring the return of the Lions as a force in the AFL.”

Mr McGregor joins current Directors Angus Johnson (Chairman), Cameron Milner, Linda Nash, Len Poulter, Mick Power and Paul Williams on the Lions’ Board.

The Board also today ratified the appointment of former Brisbane Bears and Geelong star Damian Bourke to an advisory role on the Board’s Football sub-committee.

While not a Director, Mr Bourke will act in an advisory role to the sub-committee on all football matters, Mr Johnson said.

Mr Bourke, a former ruckman, played 124 AFL games for Geelong and Brisbane Bears and was the Cats’ captain in the 1989 grand final.
