Age no barrier
32 year-old veteran Simon Black continues to be one of the most effective players at the Lions.
The midfield general’s hands are as quick as ever and he continues to rack up plenty of possessions despite still being a target for opposition taggers.
Black currently leads the Club in total disposals (and is ranked 4th overall in the AFL) and collected another 30 touches and seven tackles last Saturday against Hawthorn.
In terms of AFL Dream Team points, Black racked up 113 against the Hawks - which was second only to his young apprentice Jack Redden who amassed 130 points.
Redden had an equal career-high 32 disposals against Hawthorn in Launceston plus five centre clearances, seven tackles and two goals. He continues to post big numbers and now sits equal third in total Dream Team points among the entire AFL competition.
Captain Jonathan Brown was the Lions’ third best scorer against the Hawks with 112 points. Brown booted three goals, but also collected a season-high 23 disposals to achieve one of his biggest totals for 2011.
Tom Rockliff continued to impress with 111 points while ruckman Matthew Leuenberger and the ever-reliable Luke Power rounded out the top performers for the Lions with 91 points apiece.
Meanwhile, exciting young draftee Patrick Karnezis has jumped $57,500 in value after completing his fourth straight game. A number of AFL Dream Team coaches took a punt on recruiting Karnezis into their team a couple of weeks ago, and the investment so far has seemed worthwhile.
Off-field in the Lions’ own Dream Team competition, Nathan’s team - ‘albertproudftw’ - remains at the top for the second consecutive week ahead of Adam’s ‘Spaceballs’. But ‘The Blowtorch’ is being put on both top sides by The J Dog who is posing a real threat to the title.
Congratulations also to Stevie J’s ‘Twangy Hammy’ team whose Round 16 score of 2,381 was the biggest of any participant in the Lions’ Dream Team competition.
