The Lions AFLW side looked stronger after a second pre-season run last night, where they defeated the Gold Coast SUNS by four points in a 4x10 minute match at Leyshon Park, Yeronga.
The game was hotly contested, with both sides displaying plenty of intensity.
For the Lions, Irish recruit Orla O’Dwyer was strong and even kicked her first footy goal, much to the delight of her teammates.
Draftee Cathy Svarc was tough through the middle of the ground, with her burst of speed and strength able to evade defenders. Veteran Lauren Arnell was also highly involved throughout the night.
Ruck Hannah Hillman played her first game in a Lions jumper and took some strong marks.
Both teams were missing some of their star players – Breanna Koenen and Jessica Wuetschner did not play for the Lions, while Jamie Stanton and Sam Virgo were out for the SUNS.
The Lions will play their first AFL game at home against the Adelaide Crows on Saturday 8 February at Hickey Park at 4:10pm. Entry is FREE.
