Camp diary: Adrian Fletcher (Assistant Coach)

We woke up this morning and started the day with project groups just after 8am. Project groups basically involve four groups of about eight players and we have a goal-setting session which includes their goals for football, strength and conditioning, and their personal goals.

The whole session revolves around football and branches out so basically we try to find what will make each player a better footballer. We also had each player break down individually what they’re going to achieve in the pre-season. So that was all morning and those were good sessions.

After lunch was a free afternoon for the group. It’s been a big couple of days so we took the time to spend the afternoon together. The coaches thought that they’d grab a buggy and play some golf, but I don’t know how much quality golf was played. We lost about 80 balls I reckon.

I had Murray Davis in my group. He’s one of our new coaches here and he hits a long ball, Muz. I think he could be our Tiger Woods. I also had Woey (Shane Woewodin) playing with me. He dresses like a king but he’s the slowest golfer I’ve ever played with. He has a think, stands around, puts his tee down, won’t make his mind up about what club to use - we were out there for about six hours in the end.

We also bumped into Richy (Daniel Rich) and a few of the players. We caught Richy kicking his balls out from under the tree - no wonder his handicap’s only 7.

Tonight we’re just going to work out the final details for training tomorrow and then straight to bed, ready to go for another day.

The camp’s going well so far. We’re fine-tuning it to make sure the guys don’t get fatigued mentally and still have enough time to themselves, and I think it’s working really well. Three days to go.
