Less than a week after welcoming three new teenagers to the Club via the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, the Brisbane Lions recruiting team will have some more tough decisions to make at Wednesday’s Rookie Draft.
The Rookie Draft has become an increasingly valuable recruiting tool, with West Coast’s reigning Brownlow Medallist Matt Priddis the program’s latest poster-boy.
The Lions themselves have had great success with former rookie selections, with
current senior players Pearce Hanley, Justin Clarke, Mitch Golby, and Claye Beams all starting their AFL careers as rookies.
Existing rookies Jordon Bourke and Zac O’Brien earned the opportunity to experience senior AFL action for the first time in 2014.
The Lions will head into Wednesday’s Rookie Draft meeting with four available selections – 4, 22, 39, and 56 – and are also committed to taking international prospect Cian Hanley (brother of Pearce) as a Category ‘B’ Rookie.
