After being played in a variety of roles - and often pinch-hitting as the team’s substitute - Rohan Bewick seems to have finally found his niche in attack.

Bewick came to the Club from Western Australia as a relatively mature-age recruit at the end of 2010, and has since played in 26 senior matches.

But arguably his greatest impact has come from his past two outings - against Carlton and Adelaide - playing as a mid-sized forward. In the team's upset win over the Crows last Saturday night, Bewick kicked a team-high three goals.

The 22 year-old has proven a difficult match-up for opposition defenders, with his supreme running ability matched complemented by surprisingly strong hands overhead.

He has produced nine shots at goal in his past two games - for a return of five goals - and has now scored goals in 10 of his past 11 matches for a total of 15 for the season.

Only Jonathan Brown (38 goals), Daniel Merrett (26), Tom Rockliff (18) and Daniel Rich (16) have kicked more for the Lions in 2012.

Speaking with Melbourne radio station SEN 1116 on Wednesday, Lions Assistant Coach Adrian Fletcher said Bewick has helped add another dimension to the team’s forward structure.

“He’s one of our guys who can run at AFL level consistently - he runs up and down the ground and gives himself a chance to take uncontested marks,” Fletcher said.

“Now he’s also starting to take a few contested marks which is excellent.”

Bewick managed 10 straight senior games between Rounds 9 and 18, before he was left out of the Round 19 side that lost to Richmond.

But after earning a senior recall the following week, he hasn’t looked back.

“He’s taking his opportunities, and can play as that third tall inside 50,” Fletcher said.

“He’s always out on the track before training having shots on goal. Now he’s getting his 3-4 shots on goal per game.”
