It’s probably an understatement to say that 2020 has become a season like no other. With the uncertainty that surrounds the competition and when it will begin again, and the impact the COVID-19 virus is having on the entire world, The Club and Players are having to make constant adjustments to their daily routines and protocols and have found themselves in unfamiliar territory.
However, one thing has remained certain, and that’s the importance of the connections the players and football staff have with each other.
Andrews now spends his days completing the Club-allocated training program he’s been given as well as focusing on completing the coursework for his teaching degree, but priority over all of that is keeping in touch with his fellow teammates as much as possible.
“I’ve been completing running work with Ryan Lester, whilst practicing the recommended social distancing practices of course.
“Froggy (Ryan Lester) also has a gym setup in his garage downstairs which we’ve been utilising and I’ve been enjoying working out there.”
The Club has setup a number of apps and online programs that the players are able to tap into, as well as regular line meetings and Pride Groups which ensures regular communication and a well-structured routine whilst they're at home.
“Zoom has been copping a bit of a flogging” said Andrews.
“It’s hard, the thing I probably miss the most is the boys and having a training session then going for eggs and avocado on toast at a local café and just having a chat.
“As a Club we’ve built a really strong culture in recent years and I actually think as a team we’re looking at this as an opportunity to build on that even more.
“We’re a really tight-knit group up here.”
