The AFLW Players Association have put together the first AFLW 30Over30 squad.
Selection in the squad was based on consistency across a player’s career and the course of the AFLW competition (2017-2020). Players must also have been on a list for the duration of the 2020 season, excluding those players who have taken maternity leave and would have been on the list otherwise.
Not surprisingly, Emma Zielke, Kate Lutkins, and Lauren Arnell were all selected from the Lions. Each had exciting and illustrious football careers before being drafted in 2017 and playing in the inaugural AFLW season.
Kate Lutkins (Brisbane)
Debuting in 2017, Lutkins made herself known across the league with an impressive 2018 campaign. The lockdown defender won the club’s Best and Fairest award and was selected in the AFLW All Australian team, before backing up her performance in 2019. She had another fantastic season in 2020 proving once again, why she's regarded as one of the best defenders in the competition.
Emma Zielke (Brisbane)
Brisbane’s inaugural captain, Emma Zielke is known for her leadership and composure. A skillful midfielder, who consistently stands up for her team in crucial moments. She hasn't missed a game in her first three seasons and this year, as one of the club's Foundation 8, celebrated her 25th game with a win over Geelong.
Lauren Arnell (Brisbane)
Starting her career as Carlton's inaugural Captain in 2017, Arnell made the move to Brisbane to revive her career in 2018. She's an AFL veteran and her professionalism and composure are always evident on the field. Her move to the Lions added valuable experience and leadership to a young side. Lauren also celebrated her 25th game milestone this season.
